Dentsu Aegis Network’s Angela Courtin has been tapped by film producer Relativity Media to become its first chief marketing officer. She will help the company launch a new marketing services
division for brands.
Last August, Aegis Media promoted Courtin to the then new role of U.S. president of Aegis Media, since rebranded Dentsu Aegis Network. She was tasked with overseeing the firm’s U.S. operations, including Carat, Isobar, Vizeum, Posterscope, iProspect and other specialty units.
At Relativity, based in Beverly Hills, Courtin will oversee marketing branding and advertising for the company -- which has film, TV and sports operations, as well as a branded entertainment division. She will report to both Ryan Kavanaugh and president Tucker Tooley.
In addition, Courtin will launch a new digital division at the company. The division will grow through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions and will work closely with Relativity’s branded content unit Madvine to take a “fully integrated approach to servicing all of a brand’s marketing needs,” according to the company. The division will partner with Relativity’s business units to develop, produce, and distribute original content.

“Relativity is a global content engine,” said Kavanaugh. “Now is the perfect time to
bring on a Chief Marketing Officer with Angela’s experience, insight, and relationships. Throughout her career, Angela has connected some of the world’s most recognized brands with
consumers in innovative and engaging ways. At Relativity, Angela will build a one-stop solution for brands looking to find the best way to reach and influence consumers in an incredibly crowded
marketplace.”
Relativity has financed over 200 films generating $17 billion in worldwide box office. Films include “Oculus,” “Safe Haven” and “Act of
Valor.”
Prior to her last role at Aegis, Courtin served in the dual role of chief content officer at Aegis Media Americas and president of the Story Lab. In both roles, she worked with clients to create and leverage content.
Courtin joined Aegis Media in 2011 as EVP, content and convergence. Previously, she was co-head of Integrated Marketing at MTV and led marketing, entertainment and content at MySpace, and also worked as associate producer of the HBO series “Big Love.”
For the time being, all of Courtin’s business leader direct reports will report to Nigel Morris, CEO, Dentsu Aegis Network Americas & EMEA, a rep for the firm said.
