Verizon Media's Digital Brands Ramp Up Editorial Initiatives Around Pride

Verizon Media’s digital brands and video production studio are producing editorial and video content around Pride Month this June, including a feature-length documentary, editorial series and an augmented reality feature.

Verizon Media and its immersive content studio RYOT will premiere its feature-length documentary “5B” in the U.S. at the LA Pride Festival today, after its international debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

“5B” spotlights those who cared for the patients of the first HIV/AIDS ward unit in the U.S. at San Francisco General Hospital. The nationwide theatrical release is June 14.

HuffPost will serve as the official media partner at LA Pride’s Festival and Parade, alongside Verizon’s inaugural title sponsorship this year.

Speaking of HuffPost, the digital publisher has launched an editorial franchise called “Proud Out Loud” this week, featuring profiles on young LGBTQ leaders and trailblazers.

HuffPost, which has a strong presence in the coverage and representation of LGBTQ voices, will publish 12 international profiles throughout Pride Month in Canada, the U.K., Brazil, South Korea and other international editions.

HuffPost U.S. will publish 13 profiles and three videos.

HuffPost and RYOT will produce an augmented reality (AR) feature on June 13 that will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, a historical event that set off the LGBTQ rights movement.

The AR feature takes viewers to Stonewall Inn, where they can interact with the scene from the points of view of three people who were at the uprising: a police officer, a patron and a journalist.

Yahoo Lifestyle, Yahoo Newsand Yahoo Entertainmentare also producing more content around the LGBTQ community this month.

Yahoo Lifestyle,for example, is rolling out “Stonewall 50” content, examining the role of transwomen of color in the LGBTQ rights movement.

Additional Lifestyle and Yahoo Entertainment features and profiles on the transgender community will be published throughout the month, on LGBTQ leaders, movies and news coming out of LA Pride.

Yahoo and AOL have created Pride-themed logo takeovers on its home pages and apps that will feature and curate content around LGBTQ leaders this month, from Verizon Media’s digital brands.

Other initiatives from Verizon Media around Pride include a behind-the-scenes mini-series about the offstage lives of drag queens and interviews with LGBTQ guests and influencers like Our Lady J, RuPaul and Stonewall Opera, for its Build live audience series.

A new weekly talk show, called “The X Change Rate,” will be hosted by “Drag Race” star Monet X Change.
