Pinterest Pushes Out New Ways To Shop From Search And Recommendations

Looking to help small businesses stay afloat, Pinterest on Tuesday announced new ways to shop from Pins, on boards, from search, and through new recommendations for home decor.

The site has seen searches for products from small businesses rise three times in the past two weeks, which is not surprising. Wayfair on Monday said it would either meet guidance or see better-than-expected revenue when reporting on first-quarter 2020 revenue.

Pinterest today will begin rolling out a new shop tab on search, making it easy to shop in-stock products from retailers when searching for terms such as “spring outfits," "office décor," "kitchen remodel."

The site also added price and brand filters.

Searches for “home office setup” rose by 70% during the past two weeks since work-from-home orders went into place, as consumers look for inspiration to furnish new workspaces.

Searches for gifts also rose. In the past two weeks, increasing searches about four times for “employee gifts” and searches for “care package ideas” have doubled.

Consumers now can shop from a home decor or fashion board. They will now see a Shop tab with products from or inspired by Pins on their board. Just as if a shopping list has been created for their boards, Pinners will see in-stock products based on what they have been saving for a room or a look.

Pinterest also integrated visual search and shopping on Pins, and when searching for home-related terms like “living room,” curated style guides will now appear. Site visitors can browse home idea styles like mid-century, contemporary and rustic.

The number of shoppable Product Pins rose 2.5 times since last year, with a total increase in traffic to retail sites by 2.3 times. The number of Pinners engaging with shopping on Pinterest also rose 44% year-over-year.
