Publications often drop their paywalls for coverage of extreme weather events or other emergencies. Bloomberg has been offering some free coverage of the Israel-Gaza war.

For instance, Bloomberg recently specified that its reporting is free to read for these stories:

Hostage talks may delay Israel’s Gaza invasion

Biden, Netanyahu pledge more Gaza aid  

French, Dutch leaders to visit Israel

The message does not offer any explanation. But Bloomberg has been known to put select stories in front of the paywall as a public service to its audience when there is a major ongoing news event.  

It was not clear if other periodicals are following this this lead. Some publications, The Guardian and Newsweek among them, have no paywalls.
