Why This Sanofi Exec Is Very Comfortable In Her Own Skin

Sanofi's Margarita Miranda-Abate talks about making doors, saying yes, and enjoying her journey.

I've had the opportunity to connect with and learn from executives of major brands at MediaPost's Insider Summits. In the process I've discovered some truly impressive women -- not only for the work they do, but their stories behind the scenes. With Brand Insider: BTS, I get to pull back the curtain on some of the most influential women marketers as they talk about their path to success: the twists and turns, obstacles, inspirations and the valuable lessons learned along the way.

“I always had almost an imposter syndrome a little bit, and am I enough? I was born in the U.S., but I moved to Mexico when I was 4 and spent my life between the U.S. and Mexico…oftentimes my culture never really showed up at work. I was someone else at work. I was someone else professionally, and then when I left, that’s when I was my authentic self.” For years Margarita (Marg) Miranda-Abate was one of the only Latina executives in the room. Now Sanofi’s head of global communications of oncology, she admits, when first starting out, she didn’t know exactly what she wanted but did know what she didn’t want. And that was to be another statistic, so she kept moving forward. In this week’s episode of Brand Insider: BTS, Marg tells me once she was able to embrace her authentic self professionally things got better. Something she tries to instill in young talent starting out, reminding them it’s their diversity that shapes them and provides value. Marg also goes on to share her riskiest moment and the best advise she’s ever received…though she certainly didn’t realize it at the time. You can watch the entire conversation here:
