Anthony Enzor-DeMeo stepped into the role of
Mozilla's CEO this week, and with it laid out his strategy to push artificial intelligence (AI) with safeguards into the company's products, from paid advertising to its privacy-centric browser
Firefox.
As the browser market continues to change, "becoming the control point for digital life," Enzor-DeMeo believes Mozilla needs to quickly step up to compete.
“Search is collapsing as people turn to generative AI,” according to
the company’s summary portfolio plan for 2026 through 2028. “Likely economic result: a sharp decline in the search advertising market.”
This creates a market opening for
AI-driven products with new monetization models — but leaves Mozilla at risk given 80% of portfolio revenue still comes from search, according to the summary.

Mozilla plans to replace
traditional browsers and email clients with AI-native interfaces, creating opportunities for chat, fragment, and voice-based products. Mozilla's current experiments are still early and limited.
The company plans to develop AI-driven products under its Firefox and Thunderbird brands and establish a roadmap based on initial findings. Their strategy encourages users to consider acquisitions,
mergers, and partnerships for faster progress.
Enzor-DeMeo's appointment comes at a time when consumers are relying more on web browsers. Many have adopted them as their first point of contact
to search for products and make purchases. While some have begun to interact with AI agents, others have not.
Along with Firefox, browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari
are facing swift competition from newcomers. AI-based browsers from relatively new companies have emerged from OpenAI, Perplexity, and Anthropic to step in and step up to take market share.
“If we stay focused, Mozilla will grow in relevance and resilience,” Enzor-DeMeo wrote in a blog post. “Firefox will reach new audiences.”
He believes this approach
will strengthen the company's portfolio and independence to build trusted software will set a high standard for the industry.
The roadmap includes building privacy and data use around AI into
products that are clear and understandable. Simple controls are always a choice to allow people to turn the services off or on and teach them how they work.
These types of services bring
marketers to advertise on its platforms. The business model also focuses on trust and transparency as well as monetization.
Firefox will remain Mozilla’s anchor, as it evolves into a
modern AI browser to support a portfolio of new and trusted software, he wrote.
Enzor-DeMeo, who was officially appointed as the CEO of Mozilla Corporation on December 16, 2025,
stepped up from the post of general manager of Firefox. He succeeds interim CEO Laura Chambers.
