• Horizon Scores Big Cheese, Will Bring Tillamook To TV
    Horizon Media is ending 2010 on a pretty happy note. The giant independent media services shop, which just moved into spiffy new offices, will be able to celebrate by nibbling on some delectable from its newest client. Tillamook Cheese. Billings were not disclosed, but Tillamook has just named Horizon its agency for planning and buying, including oversight of its first TV campaign, being developed by creative shop mono.

    Nielsen has compiled Top 10 lists covering the most popular TV shows, DVDs, books, video games, purchasing trends, and most popular mobile apps, among other things, for 2010. "Mad Men" ranked as the top time-shifted primetime show. Find a link to all the lists here.
  • Mini Also Getting Sirius
    BMW unit Mini USA like its motorcycle cousin has also signed a deal with Sirius that means Mini will also Sirius as standard equipment on new Model Year 2011 MINI vehicles.   Mini will also include an introductory one-year subscription to the "SIRIUS Everything" package with the purchase of every new 2011 Mini vehicle. Said Jim McDowell, VP, Mini USA, in a statement, "Sirius is fully integrated into all three of the Mini infotainment options." All new Model Year 2011 MINI Hardtop, Convertible, Clubman and Countryman vehicles will include a factory-equipped satellite radio and a one-year introductory subscription.

  • Newspapers Overtake Broadcasters in Video Streaming
    Newspapers surpassed broadcasters for the first time in the third quarter in total video minutes streamed and the number of video titles uploaded (up 51%), according to the latest data from analytics firm TubeMogul and video-hosting service Brightcove. Newspapers had 313 million minutes of video streamed compared to 290 million for broadcasters. Other highlights included:

  • MMA Rolls Out Mobile Couponing Rules
    A day after announcing plans to develop new mobile privacy guidelines, the Mobile Marketing Association has unveiled new rules for marketers and merchants regarding mobile coupons. The move comes in response to the growing popularity of mobile deals and discounts. Nearly 30% of U.S. consumers are interested in mobile coupons, according to a recent joint study  by the MMA and research partner Synovate. The new couponing guidelines cover topics including:

  • Half of Mobile Video Traffic On iOS
    Mobile video traffic increased 60% in 2010, with Apple's iOS platform accounting fro more than half (52%) the total, according to new data from multimedia search engine MeFeedia. iPad traffic is up 325% in the last six months.Android, which accounts for 21% of video traffic, has seen traffic increase 200% since April. The company says its engine indexes 300,000 Web video feeds from 30,000 sources. Read more here.

    Facebook's senior director of local, Emily White, discusses the social network's Places and Deals services rolled out earlier this year as the company seeks to catch up in the hot social location and local deals spaces. Discussing the fragmented landscape for online deals, White told eMarketer there's "a scenario where one of the players is going to successfully and elegantly aggregate this data to make it much easier for the users to figure out exactly what deal they should be looking at on any given day, or where, based on their location." American Suzuki is launching an TV ad campaign for the Kizashi sport sedan. The new campaign called “Kizashi Kicks” centers on a series of ads that tout the car by showing how it competes in performance test drives against luxury makes, and makes fun of the whole competitive driving ad genre by having the car compete against a motorized sofa, a bubble-wrapped suit and a stretch limo.     While consumers often take their time finishing up their Christmas shopping, looks like there are better excuses this year.
