Nielsen Gracenote Starts New ID System For TV/Movie Content

Looking to improve TV/movie owners' content tracking abilities and resolve consumers’ search/discovery program issues, Nielsen's Gracenote has started a new ID system.

Using the new ID system, studios and networks can register content with Gracenote's video database for search and discovery in program guides, interfaces and OTT catalogs. Content owners can include their own content description metadata, tags and imagery.

Gracenote says the new system will include short-form video and other content reaching a total global footprint -- including linear schedules and VOD/OTT platform -- of more than 85 countries.

The move comes as TV metadata company Gracenote sees continuing growth in TV/movie content, services/platforms and devices.

Gracenote says video streaming services have on average around 40,000 TV episodes and movies, and this can result in discovery issues for consumers and content owners.

In June, Gracenote launched a video “popularity” score comprised of data for recent TV show airings and theatrical movie releases, with viewership and awareness (social media) data coming from other Nielsen services as well as from external sources.
