Email security company Mimecast has acquired eTorch Inc., a messaging security provider doing business as MessageControl.
The purchase enhances Mimecast’s strategy of improving
cybersecurity at the email perimeter and beyond, the company says.
“MessageControl is a natural complement to Mimecast’s suite of cyber resilience solutions,” states
Peter Bauer, chief executive officer at Mimecast.
The acquisition of MessageControl is not expected to materially affect Mimecast’s fiscal 2021 revenue or adjusted EBITDA. Terms
were not disclosed at deadline.
Mimecast says the acquisition of MessageControl brings the following capabilities:
- Machine-learning identification of anomalous behaviors
- Contextual, real-time warnings in email
- The ability to prevent misaddressed email data leaks
In addition, the combination strengthens protections for customers
using productivity apps such as Microsoft 365.
The news comes amid a growing wave of cyber attacks exploiting the COVID-19 crisis
“The first half of 2020 has been unlike
anything we’ve experienced before,” Bauer states. “It’s becoming increasingly clear that better innovation is required to protect against the latest weaponized and
un-weaponized attacks.”
