Microsoft ranks among the largest companies with the fastest-growing artificial intelligence (AI) team during the past three months, according to data released by Vectice, a company focused on data science.

With nearly 500 AI experts hired since March, Microsoft leads in the percentage and number of new hires, according to the data. The number of those newly hired employees represents a wide lead, compared with the second-fastest adopter, Kaiser Permanente.

Microsoft ranks No. 1 in terms of the percentage of growth -- 2.5 percentage points -- compared with all industry competitors. Ranked at No. 2 is GE Digital.

When analyzing the percentage growth compared with companies in the tech sector, however, Microsoft ranks No. 10 among 128 companies. No. 1 on the list of 10 is Concentrix.

Microsoft relies on AI for all aspects of its business, and continues to experiment with a variety of technologies for shopping and ads, such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and the metaverse.

More than 25% of consumers have used AR or VR to make purchases online, and there are between 21% and 23% who have used AR or VR to view a product they’ll ultimately purchase in-store, according to the data.

Vectice’s list of global fast-growing AI teams in terms of new hires also includes Optum, CVS Health, USAA, General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Robert Half, Walmart, and Bloomberg.
