Forbes confirmed Friday that it had shut down and is laying off its entire staff.

The site launched in 2005. It was aimed at luxury car buyers, and has boasted sponsors including Audi, BMW and General Motors.

Automotive has been one of the online ad categories hardest-hit by the downturn, along with financial services and retail.--Mark Walsh
