• Just An Online Minute... The Week That Was 2010 Internet Week New York
Why does today feel like a continuation of the week before, not just a Monday on its own? Oh that's right, because last week was the bulk of Internet Week and today is really the official last day of the Web world shenanigans. In fact, I'm capping off my coverage with The 14th Annual Webby Awards and after-party -- that is, if my stomach contents stay indoors rather than outdoors. Let's recap the week before, shall we?
  • Just An Online Minute... Pimms And Pints Wet The Media Whistles
What better way to close out the first arm of 2010's Internet Week New York than in the basement of the swank somewhat dank, rock infused, social media scenester friendly Ace Hotel? Social Media Society founder Persia Tatar introduced me to Stumptown coffee (the best, Jerry! The best!) in its belly and Friday night paidContent and The Guardian UK introduced me to Pimms.
  • Just An Online Minute... Bested By Bensimon's Ghost Answerer In The PopEverything Trivia Challenge
I left the IDGTechNetwork party at 230 Fifth, leaping over stupid puddles, but excited to cram at least 40 burgers into my mouth. I was already nervous, having volunteered to play their Ustream live-piped pop culture trivia game because I'm pretty confident in my knowledge of embarrassing tidbits. The idea of being on camera at my palest and plumpest was giving me stomach squirrels. Little did I know, my adversary would be my name twin, a lover of jelly beans and satchels of gold...and that I would lose.
  • Just An Online Minute... IDGTechNetwork Thumbs Nose At Rain, Plays Matchmaker
Rain, rain go away, especially when I lose my favorite umbrella. Last night I had three parties on deck: One on the 230 Fifth rooftop, one at a slide-centric joint, and another at an artsy-fartsy loft (though I kind of envisioned lofts as... raised areas, not ground level). One event had to do the weather scramble; the other had me thigh to thigh with a Real Housewife, and the other? Well the other was the crapshoot I expected it to be...
  • Just An Online Minute... Night At The Museum: AICP Brings The MoMA Sculpture Garden To Life
Last year I opted out of the AICP Awards and Show Reception/party of beautiful magic because of Internet Week. I ended up at a party that wasn't half as amazing and punched myself in the face eight times for bowing to the pressure of the Internet masses. This year I hoped to be invited again -- and I was. And it was everything I looked forward to, and more!
  • Just An Online Minute... Cocktails In The Expo Hall Lead Internet Week Into Corporate Territory
Giddy, foot hurt, and bringing soil attached to my heel from the Gracie Mansion yard, I headed back downtown to Metropolitan Pavilion, AKA Internet Week HQ, for the Internet Week official opening cocktail party. Would DJ Mike Relm get these nerds to shake a tail feather again? Would there be a hummus table to shame the house of Sabra? Would Ivanka Trump be there to make my pores feel self-conscious? Not...quite.
  • Just An Online Minute... Made In NY Awards Honor Those Who Did It Their Way In Old New York
As I approached 88th and East End, my ears were ringing with the silence that was broken only by the yips and rowfs of neighborhood dogs feeling intruded upon while doing their business. To my right was more park, to my left I saw the East River sparkling in the lowering sun. In front of me was a curved black walkway surrounded by thick green shrubs and poppy little purple blossoms. I switched from my flats to my heels and made eye contact with security. Behind security was a white tented booth and in front of the booth was "Saturday …
  • Just An Online Minute... Internet Week Grows Up, Retains Slinky Dog
Just got back from the Internet Week Press Preview Breakfast (around 9:41 a.m.) and I feel like people who run in the morning must feel -- a little jazzed-up, a little sweaty, and focused on killing the day. I know, Cheeseball McGavin. But I dare you not to feel part of something electric... or wireless... or motion-sensing... or super-nerdy after you pop into Internet Week New York's Headquarters at the Metropolitan Pavilion. I dare you.
  • Just An Online Minute... THIS Is How You Throw A Party That Keeps People Talking
Frequently, people ask me what party planners should keep in mind when attempting a memorable hootenanny. The answer is so subjective because 23-year-old Kelly is into one thing, 33-year-old Kelly is into another, and future Kelly prefers warm milk, a muumuu and fuzzy monkey slippers. Last night was the perfect milkshake of all three; if you're partying to impress this summer (especially next week), take heed.
  • Just An Online Minute... Charting The Course For Internet Week New York 2010!
Ok, I think I've nailed it down, that slippery little greasy wiggle worm I like to call my Internet Week schedule. I'm always conflicted because while, yes, my beat is the industry parties that usually occur in the evening, I always think you might appreciate some honest insight on the panels and such that go down. However, every time I mix it up, I get myself into trouble. So, let's just keep it safe, you and I, and stick to the map. If you're following along vicariously, please send me extra energy and serenity vibes! Ready?
