'People' (the TV Show!) Gets A 3-Season Renewal

Meredith Corp.’s TV offering "People (the TV Show!)" has been renewed for three seasons, the publisher announced on Wednesday.

Since its debut last September, the 30-minute newsmagazine program has produced a 12.2% household rating and been the top-rated syndicated show last fall in the 12 markets it serves, Meredith says. In addition, it has drawn 61.4 million views across O&O, Twitter, Twitter Live, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, the publisher adds.

The most-watched episode has been the Grammy recap and Oscar nomination show on March 15, of this year.

Like People magazine, "People (the TV Show!)" features “celebrity and entertainment news, and positive stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things,” states Patrick McCreery, local media group president at Meredith.

McCreery adds: “We replaced established entertainment news magazine shows that have occupied these time periods for decades and are pleased to see viewers respond and embrace our show.

The program is an example of a revenue-opportunity for large publishers.

Headquartered in a New York study, the daily show is headed by Rob Silverstein, executive producer. The program is aired in the Meredith markets of Atlanta, Phoenix, Portland, St. Louis, Nashville, Hartford-New Haven, Kansas City, Greenville-Spartanburg, Las Vegas, Mobile-Pensacola, Flint-Saginaw and Springfield-Holyoke, Mass.

"Rob and his team have done an amazing job translating the People brand into a TV show, and I can't wait to see how it evolves over the next three years!" states Dan Wakeford, editor-in-chief.

Meredith also offers a variety of podcasts and online TV content, such as PeopleTV, an ad-supported OTT streaming service from People and Entertainment Weekly.
