Tegna To Launch Broader 24/7 Live Streaming For Its TV Stations

Building on its streaming effort for all of its TV stations, Tegna is rolling out new, broader-reaching 24/7 live streaming over-the- top (OTT) apps with deeper content for each of its 64 stations in 51 markets.

Its TV station streaming apps -- starting with “11Alive+” aligned with its WXIA-TV Atlanta station, and “WTHR13+” for its WTHR-TV Indianapolis TV station -- will launch with additional stations rolling out in the second quarter.

“Each one has its own app, as opposed to an aggregator strategy,” says Adam Ostrow, chief digital officer of Tegna, speaking to Television News Daily. “We decided to really lean into the station brands.”

A year ago, Ostrow says, the station-specific apps were “basically a simple product. People could watch a live newscast or a replay of the live newscast.”

Now, those stations' apps will have a 24/7 livestream, where they can be different programs depending on the time of day, as well as on-demand program access.

The new streaming app will feature live local news, newscast replays, extended live coverage, weather, and station specials and investigations.

In addition, it will include local sports shows and a daily Tegna interactive live daily show, "Daily Blast Live."

New streaming apps will initially be available on Roku and Fire TV, with additional platforms slated to launch later this year.
