No surprise concerning the first key cable news network Presidential battle: Fox News was a big winner.
All primetime coverage for the Republican Iowa Caucus' had Fox getting 2.63 million viewers, between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. That was more than double CNN and MSNBC, who pulled in 1.31 million and 1.20 million viewers respectively.

Interpublic continues to morph the management structure of the IPG Media Lab, naming David Rosenberg managing partner, responsible for the lab's daily operations. Rosenberg, who reports to IPG Mediabrands Chief Innovation Officer Quentin George, joins from a brief stint as director of innovation at tech-focused start-up agency LBi, and before that as head of the emerging media team and WPP's JWT New York unit.

WPP's Ogilvy & Mather unit has named Lauren Crampsie Worldwide CMO, replacing Eleanor Mascheroni, who left the agency. Crampsie, who joined O&M in 2004, was promoted from CMO of North America.

Retail e-commerce spending for entire 2011 holiday season spanning November and December reached $37.2 billion, a 15% increase versus last year and an all-time record for the season, according a comScore release today. The increase was in line with the Web research firm’s spending growth projection for the season. Ten individual shopping days surpassed the $1 billion mark, led by Cyber Monday—which ranked #1 for the second consecutive year—at $1.25 billion. Read more

Microsoft and Nokia are preparing to spend a bundle to promote their new line of phones. According to a report in
Windows IT Pro, the companies will lay out $200 million on marketing in the U.S. to trumpet the rollout of Windows Phone-powered Nokia smartphones aimed at taking on the iPhone and Android-based devices.

In a quick assessment of Yahoo's naming of PayPal President Scott Thompson as its new CEO, Wall Street analyst Doug Anmuth of J.P. Morgan said the move is a "material loss" for PayPal parent eBay, and that while Thompson's lack of media and advertising experience is "somewhat of a concern," his track record on technology and user experience is a plus for what is required of a "rapidly evolving Internet space."

Yahoo this morning officially announced that Scott Thompson has been named CEO, filling the post that's been vacant since Yahoo's board ousted Carol Bartz in September 2011. Continuing its mobile expansion, USA Today has
introduced an app for the Kindle Fire. The newspaper publisher said the new app is specifically tailored to the Amazon tablet, which the online retailer has said was its best-selling item over the holidays. Analysts have projected the company would sell five million Kindle Fire units in the fourth quarter of 2011.
