Macy's has put its estimated $1.5 billion media agency assignment into review. The incumbent is WPP's MEC, which won the account in 2007. "As normal practice of periodic agency reviews, Macy's is conducting a review of its media account currently handled by MEC," a Macy's spokeswoman told Adage.com, which first reported the news on Wednesday. Creative work, which is handled by MEC sibling JWT is not part of the review. Macy's has hired Joanne Davis Consulting to assist with the media agency review.

introduced a new couponing app for the iPhone that allows users to get discounts when shopping online or in brick-and-mortar stores. People can use the free app to browse top coupons, popular stores, daily “Hot Deals” and product categories. It also includes a drag-and-drop feature to enter coupon codes for redemption and the ability to save coupons for later use. Brian Terkelsen has been named CEO of New York-based MediaVest USA, effective immediately. Terkelsen will report to Laura Desmond, global CEO of Starcom MediaVest Group, the Publicis Groupe media agency network. Terkelsen succeeds Bill Tucker, who has been appointed President, Global Client Operations, Starcom MediaVest Group, overseeing some of the network's growing roster of new multinational clients. Terkelsen began his SMG career with MediaVest in 2003 to build the agency's branded content practice which evolved into SMG LiquidThread in 2010. Asia Pacific "media technology platform" Komli Media this morning announced a $39 million round of funding, its largest yet. Norwest Venture Partners led the round Other investors included Nexus Venture Partners, Helion Venture Partners, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Western Technology Investment. Komli has raised a total of $62 million to date, and said the funds would be used to invest in its "core media technology platforms" and to expand its presence across the Asia Pacific region.

Nearly 20% of all TVs shipped worldwide in Q1 2012 were smart TVs, which connect the Internet with traditional televisions. The highest shipments were in Japan with 36%, followed by China with 30%, according to the NPD DisplaySearch Quarterly Smart TV Shipment and Forecast Report. The research firm notes smart TV in Western Europe equaled 29%, with North America lagging at 18%. Analysts note that smartphones also "far outnumber fixed lines" in countries where smart TVs shipped most. Sony, Skyworth, Philips, Sharp and Konka round out the top five manufacturers.

AMC’s “Mad Men” got a little madder for its fifth season finale this past Sunday. The 1960s theme stories around a fictional ad agency recorded its highest finale results so far -- 2.7 million viewers. This was a bit higher than its fifth sesaon average overall -- 2.6 million viewers this season, a 15% hike over season four. But as a comparison to other top critically reviewed cable series, it was still far behind many -- including HBO’s “True Blood”.
