• The Search Agency Acquires The Acquisition Agency
    Los Angeles-based The Search Agency said Thursday it acquired Toronto-based digital marketing firm The Acquisition Agency to expand into Canada. The company will become The Search Agency's Toronto office, led by Jason Sikora. The two companies will focus on supporting local and international clients. Sikora, the CEO of The Acquisition Agency, will stay on as managing director in Canada, bringing more than 15 years of Internet marketing experience to The Search Agency.

    Real estate online marketplace Zillow reported Wednesday it plans to acquire San Francisco-based RentJuice for $40 million in cash. The company provides rental relationship management software for landlords, property managers and rental brokers. More than 5 million renters visit Zillow monthly on mobile and desktop devices, searching through hundreds of thousands of rental listings. RentJuice's software and tools will help rental professionals market their property online.

  • NPD: Android/Samsung Surge In Q1
    U.S. sales of new smartphones running Android increased 24% in the first quarter from the fourth quarter, translating into 61% market share for the Google mobile operating system. That gain came at the expense of Apple’s iOS platform, whose smartphone share fell from 41% to 29% in the quarter, according to new data from The NPD Group. Even so, year-over-year smartphone sales for both companies remained strong, representing 90% of smartphone sales, with Android picking up 20% in 2012 and Apple, 7%.   • Search Contributes To IAC Quarterly Profit
    IAC/InterActiveCorp revenue from its online search business rose 47% to $343.2 million in Q1 2012, supporting a 91% rise in profit, according to the company's earnings report released Wednesday. Search includes Mindspark, a digital consumer products business consisting of our B2C operations, along with destination Web sites Ask.com and Dictionary.com, through which the company provides search and additional services; and Pronto, a comparison shopping engine. The earnings release states "revenue reflects strong growth from destination websites and Mindspark's B2B and B2C operations.
