The Swedish music streaming service, has attracted fresh investment from Coca-Cola, Goldman Sachs and Fidelity. The $100 million (GBP63 million) of new money gives Spotify a valuation of about $3 billion. But the private, loss-making company is facing increased competition from rival music streaming companies, such as French company Deezer, which raised $130m in new funding last month.

The music video website founded by music majors Universal andSony, is to break into mainland Europe, launching in France, Spain and Italy. The service, which is also backed by EMI Music, is aiming to attract music fans who currently watch hundreds of millions of videos each month via its channel on YouTube to its own Vevo.com website. Vevo, which launched in the UK last year, is launching country-specific versions of Vevo.com, as well as free mobile and tablet apps in each territory.
Digital Spy
UK entertainment channel FX, which hosts shows such as The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, will be rebranded in 2013 as Fox. Fox International Channels announced the news Thursday, alongside a fresh batch of shows and acquisitions for the channel, which is attempting to broaden its schedules. The channel has increased its audience share in recent years with critical and popular hits such as The Walking Dead, NCIS, True Blood and Dexter.

The last edition of the Streatham Guardian appeared Thursday. The free weekly, published in south London by Newsquest/Gannett, announced its demise in a page 3 story saying the paper is moving from print to online. It tells readers that they can upload material to the site. But it isn't clear whether this service (see here) will involve any input by journalists. The only other paper servicing the area is the Streatham & South London Press, a paid-for title published by the Tindle Group.

A key milestone in the evolution of the humble television set was reached today with publication of new research indicating that over half (55%) of UK citizens have connected their tellies to the internet via their computers. Compiled by YouGov, the study is seen as heralding the arrival of Smart TV's that connect directly to the internet without the need for a separate connecting device.

The company's trademark was found to be "confusingly similar" to Gloucestershire-based telecommunications company Total Ltd's "Your View" trademark. YouView, which launched in July and is co-funded by the BBC, TalkTalk, BT, Channel 4 and other broadcasters including Five and ITV, is an internet-enabled service touted as the future of television and has been under development since 2010. It may now face an infringement action in the High Court.
Digital Spy
The digital magazine, Blockbuster's first foray into digital publishing, is available on iPad, Android tablets and Amazon Kindle devices. Created in-house by Blockbuster's content team, the magazine also has links for customers to link through to Blockbuster.co.uk and add featured movies to their rental lists, or pre-order them online via 'Click & Collect'. Blockbuster's head of online Malachi Simons said that the firm aims to deliver the "biggest digital movie and game magazine in the UK".

The department store unleashed its much anticipated Christmas 2012 commercial on November 9th. Statistics reveal that thousands of viewers swarmed to their Facebook and Twitter accounts to commend the new release. Readings from November 13th, provided by marketingweek.co.uk, show the advert clocking up 6,790 likes and 1,340 shares on Facebook, as John Lewis transformed its Christmas ad into a highly valuable piece of social media content.

Patricio Robles, who is a tech reporter for eConsultancy, has claimed that brands of all sizes could boost their readership by getting their content published on channels other than their own. Writing for econsultancy.com, he explained: "Great content doesn't distribute itself and distribution is a crucial part of any successful content marketing strategy. Unfortunately, many companies make the mistake of focusing on owned media because, well, it's easy.

Two thirds (68%) of tablet owners have read newspapers or magazines on a tablet that they had not previously read in print, research by the PPA has found. The PPA TAP (Tablets and Publishing) Report finds a positive correlation between print and tablet readership, with 96% of tablet owners have read a printed magazine in the last year, compared to the 80% national average.
