Microsoft Bing Adds Price History, Coupons, Ethical Ratings To Shopping Searches

Marketers have more options to consider when buying search ads and optimizing content for Microsoft's search engine. Bing has added search results that show product price history, available coupons and ethical choice annotations for shoppers.

Bing now alerts consumers that coupons are available to use for a specific brand and website even before clicking through to the site. For example, a search for the Eileen Fisher website on Bing reveals coupons are available. No need to do a separate search for a code.

When consumers decide to click through from Bing to do shopping on the site, the technology automatically copies and applies the coupon to the purchase. Annotation links found in search results make it possible. This feature is available in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, and France.

Bing’s ethical choice annotation indicates whether a brand sells ecofriendly, upcycled or fair-trade fashion. The search engine partnered in May 2022 with Good On You, which powers “ethical ratings.” The rating system collects more than 500 data points per band across more than 100 key sustainability issues and indicators around people, planet and animals, and averages it out.

Ethical brand choices on Bing include Adidas By Stella Mccartney, Eileen Fisher, Patagonia, Nudie Jeans, Veja, and others.

Microsoft is not involved in developing Good On You’s methodology or ratings of any brands.

Information is gathered from brand and parent company credible reporting, third-party indices such as the Fashion Transparency Index, and CDP Climate Change and Water Security projects, and independent certifications, accreditations, and other standards-based systems like Fair Trade, Cradle to Cradle, OEKO-TEX STeP and the Global Organic Textile Standard.

Price-history also launched to help consumers decide when to make a purchase.

A graph reveals an item’s price over time. It highlights the high, median and low prices.

This feature is available across U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, and India.
