TikTok Further Expands Creator Effects Rewards Program

In a continued attempt to boost augmented reality (AR) engagement in its app, TikTok is expanding its Creator Effect Rewards program to more regions and lowering its eligibility requirements. The program offers cash payouts to creators who make trending AR effects using Effect House, the company’s AR-creation studio.

The Effect Creator Rewards program originally launched in May, opening its $6 million dollar fund to creators living in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, paying them $700 dollars for every effect used in 500K unique videos within 90s days and an additional $140 for every 100K videos published thereafter.

The company is now expanding monetization access to creators residing in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

TikTok is also lowering the required number of videos for monetizable AR effects. To qualify, creators now only need to achieve the Gold badge level, meaning they need to have five effects published and at least three of their effects used in 1,000 videos.

The company is also reducing the number of videos an effect has been used to earn cash rewards from 500K videos to 200K videos.

Still, TikTok has enforced a maximum payment for a single effect, which is $14,000, while the maximum payout an individual creator can collect per month is $50,000.

With more creators introducing AR effects into their videos on the app, TikTok may have a better chance of producing the next viral trend in AR as it competes against AR-leading apps like Snapchat, Apple, and Meta.
