• Apple Sells 37M iPhones, 15M iPads In Q4
    Apple said Tuesday it sold 37 million iPhones during the last three months of 2011, powering its way to another blowout quarter. The tech giant reported net income of $13.06, or earnings per share of $13.87, on revenue of $46.3 billion in revenue during its fiscal first quarter, easily beating the average analyst estimate of $38.9 billion in sales.  In addition to selling a record number of iPhones, Apple sold 15.4 million iPads, 5.2 million Mac computer and 15.4 million iPods.   • Yahoo Revenue Continues Slide In Q4
    Yahoo Tuesday reported net revenue of $1.17 billion for the fourth quarter, down 3% from the year earlier period and falling below the $1.2 billion analysts had expected. Net income of $296 million, or 24 cents a share, was down 5% from a year ago but in line with analysts’ consensus forecast.   • Shopkick Hits 3 Million Users
    Shopkick, the startup behind the mobile shopping app of the same name, highlighted some holiday and 2011 user data today. The company said the 3 million active shopkick users have viewed more than 1 billion in-app offers since the service was launched last August. The shopkick app (when open) is activated when a user enters a participating store, awarding them “kicks,” or rewards points that can be redeemed for in-store gift cards and other goods.     Meredith Tuesday announced its acquisition of Allrecipes.com in a transaction valued at $175 million, more doubling the size of the publisher’s Women’s Digital network to 40 million monthly visitors.   • Verizon Posts Loss On Pension, iPhone Costs
    Verizon Communications Tuesday reported a fourth-quarter loss because of a one-time pension charge and higher subsidy expenses from growing iPhone sales. The telecom giant swung to a net loss of $2.02 billion from a profit of $2.64 billion in the year-earlier period, or a loss per share of 72 cents, compared with earnings of 93 cents. Earnings excluding some items, fell to 52 cents from 54 cents a year ago, in line with analyst expectations.
