  • Rovio Launching Cartoon Channel
    “Angry Birds” creator Rovio Entertainment on Monday announced plans to introduce its first animates series across smartphones, tablets, TV networks and streaming media players. Starting the weekend of March 16,-17 Angry Birds Toons will debut via a dedicated video channel available in Rovio games, on-demand video platforms, and select TV networks globally. Rovio has partnered with Comcast Corp. to launch an Angry Birds Toons channel in the U.S. through the cable operator’s Xfinity on-demand channel, Web site and mobile app. It will go live globally on Samsung Smart TVs at launch, followed by Roku boxes and other platforms. …

    WhatRunsWhere, which allows marketers and agencies to track competitors’ online and mobile ad campaigns, has launched a new data-gathering service for Android devices. The new in-app capability shows users where competitors’ ads are running, the specific type of ad, and who’s selling those ads across more than 20,000 Android apps. WhatRunsWhere expanded into the mobile space last year through its acquisition of U.K.-based startup Mobile Ad Spy.

    Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio has added a feature for getting local updates. Starting today, a new “Add-Ins” tool in the online radio service’s tuner module will let listeners insert short local news, weather or traffic updates into their custom stations. Going beyond music, the new offering captalizes on Clear Channel’s national network of more than 850 local radio stations in 150 markets. Once enabled in a user’s account settings, Add-Ins will automatically determine a listener’s location unless someone has opted to set location manually by zip code.   • HootSuite Launches Developer Program
    Social media marketing platform HootSuite has announced a developer program that gives third-party developers the chance to make money from subscription-based apps. In addition to free titles in its app directory, the company recently launched premium apps starting with offerings from Salesforce.com, Statigram and YouTube. The Salesforce app, for instance, costs $4.99 a month and lets users create leads from social profiles in HootSuite streams, update information for existing leads, and look up lead records in Salesforce based on social profile data.     The top mobile search categories didn’t necessarily attract the most ad dollars last year, according to new data from location-based mobile ad network xAd. The top verticals searched via mobile devices were local restaurants, travel (gas stations, hotels, transportation) and health and beauty. But only travel was among the top three in advertising along with telecom and financial services. Telecom and financial services are typically among the highest-spending ad categories online, so that appears to carry over to mobile as well.   • Pandora Q4 Revnue up 54%, CEO Stepping Down
    Internet radio service Pandora said on Thursday that CEO Joseph Kennedy will soon leave the company. Kennedy, who has been Pandora's CEO since July 2004, said in a statement that after discussions with Pandora's board of directors, "I reached the conclusion and advised the board that the time is right to begin a process to identify my successor." He will remain as chief executive until a replacement is named. The announcement came just after Pandora reported fourth-quarter results that beat Wall Street expectations.
