• AccuWeather Strikes China Deal
    AccuWeather International has reached a deal to distribute its weather services in China across digital media and any device with an IP address. As a result of the company’s cross-licensing agreement with Huafeng Innovative Network Technology Co., AccuWeather content will now be available to its device-manufacturing partners in China. At the same time, Huafeng, a subsidiary of the China Meteorological Administration, will supply weather service products from China to AccuWeather across all digital media.   • M-Coupon Redemptions To Climb 50% This Year
    A new forecast from U.K.-based Juniper Research projects mobile coupon redemptions will grow more than 50% this year to 10 billion. The firm said retailers are increasingly adopting mobile as a tactic to help drive footfall and enhance customer engagement and retention. While mobile still accounts for a relatively low volume of coupons issued, retailers have been encouraged by the 10% redemption rate of mobile coupons compared to 1% for traditional print and PC-based ones.   • ABI: 22% of Tablet Owners Spend $50 A Month
    More and more evidence suggests the tablet is displacing the smartphone as the device of choice for m-commerce. A recent eMarketer report estimated purchases made through tablets last year easily outpaced those on smartphones, by nearly $14 billion to about $10 billion, even though tablets have far less penetration to date.   • "Katie" Gains With Manti Te'o interview
    "Katie," the first year syndication talk show hosted by Katie Couric,  gained 30% over its average seasonal rating for its highly touted interview with Manti Te'o, the Notre Dame football player. It improved to 3.5 million in total viewers and a Nielsen 2.6 household rating/7share. Te'o has been in the middle of an online hoax involving his nonexistent girlfriend.The show was 17% better than "Katie"'s previously high, a show about medical mysteries, which took in 3 million viewers.  
  • AT&T Posts Narrower Q4 Loss
    AT&T on Thursday reported a narrower fourth-quarter loss, with pension-related expenses and costs related to Superstorm Sandy holding down earnings in the year-end period. The telecom giant posted a loss of $3.9 billion, or 68 cents a share, compared to a loss of $6.7 billion, or $1.12 a share, a year ago. On an adjusted basis, AT&T had earnings of 44 cents per share.
