Dorothy Pitman Hughes, a legendary Black feminist and co-founder of Ms magazine, has died at age 84. Pittman also ran a pioneering neighborhood childcare center on the West Side of Manhattan.

Danielle Cadet has been hired as executive editor and vice president of content at Essence Communications Inc. Previously, Cadet has served as editorial director of Netflix’s Strong Black Lead. 

Gannett began a new round of layoffs on Thursday. The firm planned to cut about 6% of its 3,440-person staff in its U.S. media division.
