Sundance Channel's six-episode original series “Rectify” will debut on April 22, the network's first wholly owned scripted production. The story follows Daniel Holden (Aden Young), who
is released after nearly 20 years of complete isolation on Death Row and returns as an outsider to his family and community. "Rectify” is part of Sundance Channel's expansion into scripted
originals, which also includes “Top of the Lake” -- written and directed by Oscar-winner Jane Campion, starring Elisabeth Moss and Holly Hunter, airing March 18. The seven-part miniseries
will debut its first two-hour-long episode -- a mystery that centers on the disappearance of a 12-year-old named Tui, who is five months pregnant and was last seen standing chest deep in a frozen
lake.

I wish Sundance luck with the ambitious launches. Jane Campion's talent speaks for itself but I'm disappointed the other series is using the quite stale and overused premise of a character released from many years of captivity rejoining his/her former society. I think a fresher creative concept might draw a bigger initial audience.
