Standard Media Index Appoints Jason Keown As Vice President, Marketing

Advertising intelligence company Standard Media Index continues to grow its management ranks with the appointment of Jason Keown as vice president of marketing.

In this new position, Keown will focus on expanding business in North America.

In July, SMI hired Ben Tatta, former president and co-founder of analytics company 605, as president of SMI’s U.S. market.

Keown had been head of accounts at Community Agency in Canada and a volunteer advisor to MaRS Discovery District in TorontoSMI. In addition, he held senior agency positions at DDB, Y&R and Cossette Communications. He has also held senior marketing posts at Burger King and Office Depot.

Keown will report to James Fennessy, global chief executive officer of SMI.

In June, SMI added a number of media agencies to its roster of clients, where it “pools” media billings for its advertising data -- including top media group GroupM. It also added Horizon Media, Canvas Worldwide, RPA and MDC Partners’ Assembly.

All this boosted SMI’s media-buying billings by 25% to just under $90 billion in U.S. national ad spending.

SMI data comes from actual invoices from the largest global media-buying groups, as well as independent agencies, amounting to more than 85% of all agency media spending across TV, digital, out-of-home, print, and radio.
