Digital intelligence company Similarweb announced the acquisition of 42matters, an app intelligence provider headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
Similarweb CEO Or Offer believes the acquisition marks a significant step in expanding the company’s data capabilities in app analytics, which is estimated to reach $15.7 billion by 2028.
42matters co-founder Andrea Girardello will continue as the company’s CEO.
The company will operate as 42matters, a Similarweb company. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The goal to integrate 42matters’ advanced technology across app-store data, app engagement data, and mobile SDK data will expand Similarweb’s app intelligence.
Through the acquisition, mobile SDK data gives Similarweb the ability to offer deeper insights into app development and use patterns. App owners gain visibility into competitors’ tech stacks, such as the use of app SDKs for integration with specific advertising channels.

42matters’ app data includes 12 app store platforms, more than 2.1 million publishers, 2,600 SDKs, and 20 million apps. This acquisition expands Similarweb’s Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) catalog.
The company’s team with join Simliarweb, which this year has been reporting on web traffic for OpenAI as the company releases different services.
In June, the company's data shows how OpenAI’s ChatGPT had experienced a significant increase in traffic and engagement, attributing GPT-4o AI model to the surge.
June traffic for ChatGPT rose about 96% year-over-year (YoY), comparing chatgpt.com with the website’s previous home at chat.openai.com, according to a preliminary estimate from Similarweb. In the US, the increase is 135.8% YoY and 5.55% month-over-month (MoM).
Daily active ChatGPT mobile app users of the rose nearly 13% month over month in June to 3.2 million, based on estimates for the U.S.
Similarweb also noted at the time that traffic to Google’s Gemini had been trending higher, up nearly 150% YoY in June, despite a -16.6% MoM drop from May to June.
