Yahoo News has tapped former New York Times staffer Megan Liberman as editor in chief, charged with overseeing “a major expansion” of the section, according to a company announcement Monday. In her new role, she will also focus on original reporting, social newsgathering, video, and live events coverage. Liberman was most recently deputy news editor at the Times, involved in driving digital initiatives including the newspaper’s blog network and live streamed coverage of the 2012 elections. Samsung launched a smartwatch Wednesday called the Galaxy Gear that works with Android-powered devices. It features a 1.63-inch screen and 1.9-megapixel camera. The watch goes on sale Sept. 25. The device syncs with tablets and smartphones using Google's Android software.
