Bill Harvey was the best of the best. His mind always working and his instincts have always been spot on. Both kind and brilliant, he was truly one of a kind. I am deeply deeply saddened by this news.

Bill was my blong time friend and was always thinking, always gracious  , always generous.  In short, a great guy and a major player in the media business at the highest intellectual levels. This is a great loss for all of us.

Bill was very good to me when I worked at TRA / TiVo Research, the company he founded. He was greatly admired by people who knew him. When my then boss left the company, I was given direct access to Bill. He was so admired and I liked him so much that I would include him on all my biggest and most important sales calls. The way some of my clients responded, you would have thought I brought the pope. I feel fortunate to have gotten to work with Bill. He will be greatly missed.

This is such devastatingly sad news. Bill showed us that innovation is not correlated with age, I got to see it first hand in a project Bill and RMTLabs are currently working on with one of my consulting clients, Mediaprobe. He had a positive impact on our community for over 50 years! It was one of the highlights of my career to have Bill nomimate me for the ARF Erwin Ephron Demystification Award, and have Bill introduce me at the award ceremony. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to his family and his team at RMTLabs.

Bill was always exploring new ideas--especially those involving how our brains work relative to media and advertising. After I left BBDO in the mid-1970s, Bill often invited me to meetings  where we discussed the implications of brain wave research and its application to the pre- testing of TV commercials with various scientists, would be practicioners of such services, TV show producers, etc. I'll never forget some of those most stimulating meetings and Bill is the one who made them that way.

A brilliant mind, a legend in our business, respectful, kind, and encouraging to a neophyte like me when I was just starting to have a voice. Lived a full life, but still gone too soon. Sad day.

First, I want to acknowledge Joe for writing this article with such depth, respect, and affection for Bill. After knowing him for so many years, this was probably one of the hardest articles Joe has ever had to write. I knew Bill for more than 30 years, bought every book he published, and asked him to sign it “To My Best Friend Frank.”  I’m devastated, as we were scheduled to meet for lunch next month.
My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and everyone at RMT.
