Women may be worried about the economy, but they are certainly splurging on their fingernails. The NPD Group reports that in the first 10 months of the year, total prestige makeup sales are up 8% to $2.8 million. And high-end nail products, those sold in department stores, are up a whopping 59%. Total eye and other color products gained 10%, lip products rose 8%, and total face products advanced 7%. MDC Partners has hired Anne Bologna as a Managing Director, responsible for several of the advertising, branding and research companies in the holding company. She joins from Cramer-Krasselt, New York , where she was executive vice president-general manager. Before that, she was founding partner and CEO of independent agency Toy.

As one Nielsen communications exec leaves -- Chief Communications Officer Ed Dandridge (see earlier post) -- another has arrived. Flavie Lemarchand-Wood has joined Nielsen as vice president-global communications, reporting to senior vice president-global communications Matt Anchin.

Ed Dandridge is out as Chief Communications Officer at Nielsen. Dandridge is leaving to become CEO of an as-yet-undisclosed Washington, DC-based private equity trade association. Nielsen is currently reviewing what to do about his position.

Internet advertising revenues in the U.S. hit $7.88 billion during the third quarter of 2011, representing a 22% increase over the same period in 2010, according to just released estimates from the IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report. The IAB said the quarter marks the 8th consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. It also represents a 2.7% increase from the record-setting revenues of the second quarter of 2011.
