• CNN Fires Rick Sanchez For Radio Remarks
Rick Sanchez, a daytime anchor at CNN, was fired on Friday, a day after telling a radio interviewer that Jon Stewart was a bigot and that "everybody that runs CNN is a lot like Stewart." The latter comment was made shortly after Stewart's faith, Judaism, was invoked. Sanchez's comments came Thursday during a contentious conversation with the comedian Pete Dominick on satellite radio. By Friday afternoon, a recording of the conversation had circulated widely on the Internet. CNN said in a statement Friday evening, "Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service …

The "Anderson Cooper 360" host is in talks with Telepictures Productions and Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution for a program that would be pitched to stations in the next couple of weeks targeted to launch in fall 2011. The project will not have a hard-news focus, though given Cooper's background, he'll likely bring a more journalistic approach to handling popular topics compared to most daytime fare. Barbara Walters and Meredith Viera also made the crossover from news to daytime. The show is billed as a topical format that will cover everything from celebrities and pop culture to social issues …

  • Couric May Return To 'Today'
Katie Couric, who has had a controversial prime-time run, plagued by lower ratings than her news rivals, might end up back on the "Today" show when her "CBS Evening News" contract expires at the end of May. A spot will be open because Meredith Vieira is expected to leave "Today" to spend more time with her family. Sources say Couric had been talking with her old friend Jeff Zucker, her producer at "Today" before he rose to CEO of NBC-Universal. But Zucker's just-announced exit from the network won't preclude a Couric move to NBC. She's also lunched with …
  • Republicans Nix Net Neutrality Bill
A temporary legislative fix to regulate broadband traffic failed to garner Republican support, killing the chance of a remedy from the Congress before the mid-term elections. For weeks, House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman floated legislation contingent on bipartisan support. He said it would be "an interim measure to protect net neutrality while Congress considers a permanent solution." The underlying idea of Net neutrality is that high-speed Internet providers should not be allowed to give preferential treatment to content providers that pay for faster transmission. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) took up the controversial issue over the summer …
