Nokia has tapped Wieden & Kennedy as lead strategic and creative agency for its $300 million mobile phone account. The agency, through its London office, will now handle all global campaigns and its first work should hit early next year. Nokia made the move as cell-phone sales in the U.S. are looking to shift dramatically with the much-ballyhooed rollout of Apple's iPhone. Nokia is the world's leading maker of cell phones, but is less of a presence here in the U.S., spending just $49 million in measured media last year, according to TNS Media Intelligence. A&W's newest ad campaign touts its use of only U.S. beef in it hamburgers, while trashing industry leader McDonald's for having "millions of pounds of beef from foreign places" on its menu. The 30-second spot also promotes A&W's "Papa Burger," claiming it to be "the real American" cheeseburger. "Our research shows that consumers want great tasting hamburgers that are made from 100% U.S. beef," says company spokeswoman Allison Grever. The vote -- 309 to 115 - was on an unrelated appropriations bill amended to put a ban on the use of government spending to revive the doctrine. It was passed with strong Republican supports and while Democrats admit they are concerned about the ideological skew of talk radio, they say there were no moves to resurrect the doctrine. "It's long since gone by …

General Motors Corp.'s decision to move its Buick account from one Detroit-area ad agency to another is creating some waves in the Motor City's ad community. Leo Burnett, which lost the Cadillac account a year ago, snagged the $122 million Buick business, ousting McCann-Erickson, which had it for about 50 years. GM is also moving its $261 million GMC account to Burnett from Lowe Worldwide in New York. That means more jobs at Burnett -- and layoffs at McCann. When Burnett lost the Cadillac account last June, it cut down from 280 to 200 employee, but a …
