In Wal-Mart's new remodeling program, magazines will be shifted to the back of stores. About 650 existing and soon-to-open stores nationwide are adopting the new floor-plan. In the remodel, the books and magazines aisle will be moved from the front-end of the store to the Entertainment department, where music, movies, electronics and games are sold. IMG Worldwide and TV's "Dog Whisperer," Cesar Millan, are launching a magazine dedicated to dog owners and their pets. The new publication, Cesar's Way, hits newsstands next week. It is filled with slick photos of celebrities such as Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton and Jennifer Aniston with pets in tow. The magazine is the latest example of TV personalities trying to parlay their popularity into newsstand sales. John Korpics has been named the new creative director of Fortune, charged with redesigning the magazine. Korpics has won two National Magazine Awards for design, one at Esquire and another at Entertainment Weekly. Two years ago, Korpics lost an internal competition to redesign In Style. This time around Korpics beat out an internal design team from Time Inc. and Robert Priest, the former design director of Condé Nast's Portfolio, the financial monthly that shut down earlier this year. New York Times Co. CEO Janet Robinson says that selling the Boston Globe is no longer a financial imperative. Pay cuts and other savings have put the newspaper on stronger financial footing, she told Globe workers yesterday. The Globe has cut jobs, wages, benefits and trimmed sections as its ad sales plunged. In April the publisher threatened to close the paper if unions didn't agreed to $20 million in cost cuts. Turner Sports, which manages Nascar.com, has inked a deal with News Corp.'s Speed Channel to launch 'Nascar on Speed, a new Web video channel on Nascar.com. The new video channel, which went live yesterday, is entirely Speed-branded and will feature talent from the Speed Network, even though Turner's own cable networks TNT and TBS have long broadcasted Nascar events. Among the original shows offered each week via Nascar on Speed are Speed's "Race & Chase Preview," which will feature several current drivers. USA Today is joining The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times in offering a branded wine club. USA Today's twist on the concept is that reader-tasting panels will help determine the selection of wines that are shipped. The club offers members six bottles of wine quarterly, for $70 plus $12 shipping. Each wine is accompanied by tasting notes, facts about the region and varietal and a recipe to create a meal pairing. The program is operated by My Wines Direct. Are newspaper microbrew or gourmet coffee clubs around the corner?

BusinessWeek has generated interest from 93 potential buyers, says McGraw-Hill CEO Terry McGraw, whose New York-based company owns the magazine. He says interested parties include private equity investors, hedge funds and strategic buyers. No specific suitors were named. McGraw-Hill previously said it is exploring options for the magazine after overhauling its education division and the Standard & Poor's credit-ratings unit. BusinessWeek's ad sales fell 33% in the first half from a year earlier, to $77.8 million, per PIB. That compares with a 21% drop industrywide.

Last night Viacom launched "Get Schooled," a five-year public service campaign developed in conjunction with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The kickoff was a half-hour documentary that was "roadblocked" across all of Viacom's cable networks, including MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central. Titled "Get Schooled: You Have the Right," the documentary profiled White House speechwriter Sarah Hurwitz and others explaining how they overcame educational hurdles.
