ABC Stations in NY, Phila, Will Begin Live Streaming Via Mobiile Phones on Tuesday--With A Catch

iPad and iPhone users in New York and Philadelphia will be able to download an app on their devices beginning Tuesday afternoon that will deliver their local TV station, live, a first for the major networks and a sign of the growing influence and importance of mobile video. There is a hitch. It's only available to viewers who already get the stations delivered to them via cable or satellite. Affiliates will be encouraged to join ABC-owned stations; the Times says Hearst Television may have signed on for its ABC affiliates. The date for the launch was apparently chosen to coincide with ABC's upfront presentation in Manhattan on Tuesday.
