Musk Says He Is Open To Substack Buy

The social media world was buzzing over the weekend over this five-word post from Elon Musk: “I’m open to the idea.”

Musk made that comment when someone asked if it would make sense for Twitter to buy the email newsletter platform Substack.

There is no indication that the two firms are talking. And Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion, seems to have his hands full as employees and advertisers flee.

Musk has raised the idea before, but this latest teaser from him has created new speculation.

Recently, Twitter killed Revue, the email newsletter service it acquired last year.

A Twitter user tweets that Substack (the email service used by authors like Patti Smith) would be a good buy.

“You would have the information layer with Twitter and the narrative layer,” this person writes. “Corporate media would then have specialize on reporting government leaks, from ‘people familiar with the matter.”

Maybe not.
