Since wikis enable
people to edit and contribute to published content, it raises the risk that the information provided could be inappropriate, irrelevant or just plain wrong. As the folks at Wikipedia will tell you,
wikis need constant monitoring. This would certainly cost, but would the payoff in ad revenue make it worth the expense for media companies?
Absolutely, because wiki content costs
nothing to produce. The problem media execs will have is ceding even more control of their content to consumers.
However, imagine how comprehensive the story of a major event would become if those involved were able to publish their individual experiences? This is different than what blogs and social networks would offer because it offers like-minded people the ability to collaborate. Like blogs, wikis will take a while to catch on with the general public. As it is just 2% of Web users know what a wiki is.
