Zakaria To Host CNN Show

  • TV Week, Thursday, November 8, 2007 11 AM
CNN has signed up Newsweek International editor Fareed Zakaria to host an hour-long weekly program featuring journalists and commentators who will do the talking head thing on international affairs. The show is slated to launch in the first quarter of next year, and will run weekends both here and on CNN International.

"Fareed is the best in the world at boiling down--without dumbing down--complex issues," says CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein. "His weekly global get-together on CNN will be invaluable to viewers who are beginning to realize that for their own personal and financial security, they urgently need to know what's really going on in their world."

Zakaria, is based in New York, will still run Newsweek's international editions and write his column for the magazine. "CNN's global reach is such a powerful tool for understanding a world that is growing ever more interconnected," he says. "For one hour a week we'll shrink the planet down to a digestible size, and get to know the most important people and ideas from everywhere that are affecting our viewers' lives."
