    Wenner Media boss Jann Wenner will tap Rolling Stone veteran Jason Fine to lead Men's Journal after firing editor-in-chief Brad Weiners last week. Wenner will announce Fine's appointment this week to a seat that has seen frequent turnover. Fine, who is executive editor at Rolling Stone, has a background in music but not outdoor adventure writing. Wenner was in Hollywood over the weekend for the kickoff of RS/LA, a licensing deal for the first Rolling Stone-themed restaurant in the magazine's history.   • News Corp. Buys Educational Company
    News Corp said it will acquire 90% of Wireless Generation, a privately held Brooklyn-based education technology firm, for about $360 million in cash to expand its presence into the education technology sector. The company said Wireless Generation will become a unit of News Corp and will be managed by the target company's executives, including founder and CEO Larry Berger, who will retain a 10% interest. Established in 2000, Wireless Generation offers mobile and Web software, data systems and professional services that allow teachers to use data to assess student progress and deliver individualized instruction.

    Rainbow Media is shuffling the deck at its ad sales unit, appointing Bill Rosolie to oversee all digital business, while adding AMC to Scott Collins' portfolio of cable networks. Rosolie, who previously served as AMC's senior vice president, advertising sales, has been named executive vice president, ad sales, Rainbow National Services. The new position incorporates oversight of all digital ad sales efforts for Rainbow's five national networks--AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel, WE tv and Wedding Central--as well as direct response.     Comcast confirms that its outside mediation with Tennis Channel to try to resolve a carriage complaint has failed and the dispute will now go before an FCC administrative law judge. The FCC designated the dispute for a hearing last month, saying there were "substantial and material question of fact as to whether Comcast has engaged in conduct that violates the program carriage provisions of the ACT and the Commission's rules."   • TiVo Creates iPad Remote Control App
    Personal video recording concern TiVo will offer a free iPad remote control app. The TiVo Premiere App enables browsing and searching for TV shows without disrupting whatever's playing on TV. It said to work "in tandem" with what's being watched, and thus renders so-enabled iPads as remote control devices. TiVo says the app provides "gesture-based control," though it requires a "simple tap or a swipe" to rewind or fast-forward. It enables remote scheduling and has a social networking element connecting it to Facebook and Twitter as well.

    Senator Al Franken, a critic of Comcast Corp's proposed deal for control of NBC Universal, asked the Justice Department on Monday to investigate whether the giant cable company had engaged in "illegal collaboration" concerning its intended target.
