Game Show Network Spoofs Politics

  • August 12, 2003
Game Show Network plans an election special about the underdog/celebrity candidates in California's gubernatorial recall race. The one-hour special, "Who Wants to Be Governor of California? The Debating Game," will include the first political debate ever produced game-show style and will air at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 on GSN. The special will chronicle the campaigns of five candidate/contestants whose names will be revealed later this week in a news conference to be held in Los Angeles. "Who Wants to Be Governor of California? The Debating Game" is GSN's first effort in covering politics. As part of this strategy, the network is establishing GSN News and will produce "GSN News Updates" on a regular basis in primetime throughout the election. The five office-seekers selected for the show will vie for a campaign contribution prize of $21,200, the maximum corporate contribution allowed by California law.
