Medical Advice Still Lacking Online

If you're looking for a good movie, or a new computer, there's no shortage of opinions online. But if you're in the market for medical advice? Not so much.
One reason, according to R2i CEO Matt Goddard, is that doctors don't want to opine online. "Doctors are not comfortable in the open Web answering a specific question for a specific patient, because that's health advice," he says, adding that doctors could "get into trouble" by offering advice to people who aren't patients.
Another factor, says Augustine Fou, CEO of Marketing Science Consulting Group, is that there's a relative shortage of "informed reviews" for doctors. "We have plenty of reviews for things like digital cameras. We don't have (those) kinds of informed reviews for doctors."
