Nielsen Parent VNU Eyes U.S. Acquisitions

  • August 12, 2004
Calling the U.S. "an important market for us," Rob van den Bergh, CEO, of VNU, the Amsterdam-based parent of Nielsen and trade publishers like Adweek, Billboard and The Hollywood Report on Wednesday told CNBC he is eyeing acquisitions in the U.S. and Asia. In a separate interview with Reuters, Van den Bergh said the Dutch company anticipated a series of small investments in "new measurement tools," possibly combined with a big buy, that would fuel revenue gains in coming years. Marketing and media research have been the company's biggest growth engines in recent years, and there has been speculation that VNU might attempt an acquisition of publicly traded radio research Arbitron, which has a patent on a promising new portable people meter measurement system that Nielsen has rights to license.
