An SBC promotion offering one year of Yahoo! DSL service for $19.95 a month for a year, which began this autumn, is exerting pricing pressure on the cable industry, according to a Merrill Lynch report
released Thursday. But the report also revealed that cable modems continue to deliver higher-speed connections than DSL. SBC Yahoo!'s DSL service offers downstreams at between 384 kpbs and 1.5
Mbps--far slower than cable's typical 4 Mbps downstream speed. The SBC Yahoo! upstream DSL of 256 kbps also trails cable's standard 384 to 512 kbps.
