Northern California DA Warns About Email Scam Targeting Lawyers

A Northern California District Attorney has issued a warning to local lawyers about a spam email in circulation. The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office said that the emails are arriving in the inboxes of attorneys claiming to come from a foreign corporation that needs help with a breach of contract lawsuit or with debt collections. The fake company then sends a digital contract to the law firm, followed by a check in the mail for payment. The attorney is advised to keep the legal fee and then transfer the remaining balance to a foreign bank.
