  • June 6, 2005
In a deal that marks an end to one of the newspaper industry's most prestigious publishing names, Lee Enterprises Friday said it would acquire Pulitzer Inc. The stock deal, valued at $1.46 billion, puts an end to the 127-year-old family-run Pulitzer chain, which will be merged into Lee. After the deal closes, Lee will publish more than 52 dailies, 300 weeklies, and a variety of shoppers and specialty publications.
