'GQ Italia' Editor Steps Down, Welch Takes Reins

Another top European editor is departing Condé Nast. Giovanni Audiffredi is stepping down from his post as editor-in-chief of GQ Italia, effective at the end of August.

This is happening less than a month after it was reported that Emanuele Farneti was exiting as editor of Vogue Italia.

Will Welch, editor of U.S. GQ, will take over at GQ Italia, according to Business of Fashion.

Audiffredi is joining a parade of top editors leaving in Europe, including Farneti, Dylan Jones, editor in chief of British GQ and Joseph Ghosn, editorial director of Vanity Fair France, as reported by WWD.

In addition, the editors of Vogue Germany, Spain, Japan, India and France have also left, according to Fashion United.

It brings into question the success of these magazines in Europe.

Condé Nast did not responded to a request for comment at press time.

Farneti had written on Instagram that “Vogue is entering a new chapter: It is going global. And because the beginning of any new chapter must coincide with the end of the last, I have decided to step down as EIC of Vogue Italia when our September issue is complete.”
