Weather Channel Online Releases Ad-Supported Games

  • December 1, 2005
The Weather Channel Interactive Wednesday announced the release of a pair of free online games--a racing game and a golf game--that incorporate real-world weather conditions into the gameplay, allowing the player to shoot a few holes in the same weather as Pebble Beach or Hilton Head. The games are also designed to allow advertisers to buy ad space within the game worlds. The ads would appear much in the same way that sponsorship appears in televised driving or golfing events, a spokesman for the Weather Channel said--Banners, billboards, or even a brand-name automobile on a platform in the middle of a water hazard. The Weather Channel Interactive is in talks with several advertisers, but no deals have yet been finalized, the spokesman said.
