Employees Unionize At A Gannett Paper In Indiana

Employees at the Evansville (Indiana) Courier & Press, a Gannett newspaper, are forming a union.

They expect to be represented by the NewsGuild, part of Communications Workers of America (CWA).

Gannett purchased the paper in 2016. Since then, faced with declining resources, journalists have been doing the work of three people.

The union charges that employees have been informed repeatedly that there will be no hires, or any pay raises.

"We love our jobs and want to continue serving the community," says reporter Jon Webb, according to the union. "We believe unionizing is the best way to ensure that happens."
