When it comes to big technology brands, Microsoft apparently can't be trusted. At least that's the conclusion of a new survey that revealed the most trusted brands in technology among 5,000 American
consumers. The winners were speaker maker Bose, PC makers Dell and Hewlett-Packard, and Japanese multi-product makers Sony and Panasonic. Microsoft scored a 3.9 out of a possible 5 on the survey by
Forrester Research, which attributed the company's problems to negative press over several issues. Overall, the study showed that consumer faith in technology brands fell 2.3 percent in the last two
years, suggesting that people are become more pessimistic about tech even as it plays an increasingly larger role in their everyday life. "Technology pessimists as a group give device brands a 0.16
percent lower trust score than technology optimists," said Forrester Research analyst Ted Schadler. Hurting brand trust is the fact that price is becoming more important than a brand name, said Mr.
Schadler. The drop in consumer trust in tech products had nothing to do with the Nasdaq market, which he said was up 20 percent in the last two years.
