Ad Industry, Commercial Actors Unions Weigh Comp Study

  • April 7, 2006
Madison Avenue's Joint Policy Committee on Broadcast Talent Union Relations (JPC) and representatives of the main commercial actors unions - the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) - are set to meet Saturday to discuss commissioning study on alternate methods to compensate performers for their participation in commercials that appear on TV and radio, as well as in new media platforms. If conducted, the study would be handled by an independent, third party consultant with experience in TV, radio, and labor relations.

Current contracts are set to expire on Oct. 29, but the joint policy committee and the unions said they are also discussing an extension of the contract to enable completion and review of a study, if it moves forward.
