Turner Broadcasting's TNT is doing its first exclusive theatrical movie sponsorship with JP Morgan Chase & Co. for the film "Castaway." During commercial breaks, Chase will produce and run a series of
continuing story-line vignettes.
Chase calls the vignettes "Change of Plans"--a series of four 30-second episodes. The fifth and final one will air online on TNT.tv. The Tom Hanks
movie debuts on TNT, Oct. 6.
The campaign is to promote Chase's new rewards credit-card, called Chase Freedom. In the vignette series, a harried businesswoman has a series of daydreams while
trying to complete her project. Then she makes a drastic change to get to her goal and uses the Chase Freedom card.
Chase will get three other airings of "Castaway" where the Change of Plans will
run. In addition, a consumer sweepstakes is being held.
A Turner executive would not disclose financial details.
TNT does have an exclusive sponsorship deal with Johnson & Johnson for its
"Johnson & Johnson Presents." But that is for original movies. The Chase deal is the first one for a theatrical movie.
